The Snow Queen
The Snow Queen
The Snow Queen
The evil Snow Queen finally takes revenge on her family for abandoning her years before. She captures Prince Darius but doesn’t count on the resilience of his sister Princess Anya to fight back.
Adapted from Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale, this is an entirely original version of the Snow Queen which has been customised especially for pantomime, with Principal Boy and Girl, Dame, two comedy duos. an evil villainess and a comedic robber gang.
Plot Summary
Princess Anya and two servants attempt a bold rescue mission after the evil Snow Queen casts a spell and kidnaps Prince Darius in an act of vengeance for her family banishing her years before. The King, Queen and Clara the cook all set off in quick pursuit as well. When Anya meets the dashing and handsome Olav, she happily accepts his offer of help. Three robbers are also persuaded to help try to defeat the Snow Queen.
At the Ice Palace the Snow Queen is assisted by her two henchmen Frostbite and Iceberg as she tries to freeze Darius’s heart with a splinter from her magic mirror, but she finally gets her comeuppance as Anya and Olav fight back.
All ends happily when Princess Anya finds out Olav is really a Count and agrees to marry him.

Hinkle (Pointing to Clara’s dress) Clara, where on earth did you get that dress from?
Clara I got it from (name a local clothes shop), it was one of their discounts.
Hinkle It looks more like one of their discards.
Clara Do you like it?
Clara gives a twirl.
Finkle It doesn’t suit you at all.
Clara The woman in the shop said it matched my eyes.
Finkle She was lying, if it matched your eyes it would need to be bloodshot!
Clara Oh you two are a tease, it’s just as well I know you so well and I know you’re joking. (She pauses and looks slightly worried) You are joking with me, aren’t you?
Hinkle and Finkle look serious and then start to laugh.
Finkle Of course we are, you know we love you. Your new dress is lovely.
Darius enters.
Hinkle Ah Darius we were just saying how lovely Clara’s new dress is.
Darius Yes it’s very nice.
Clara I’m really into labels.
Darius Oh which ones? Those sick on types or the ones you iron on?
Hinkle (To Clara) You always dress with a certain flair. No one dresses like you; you have your very own style.
Clara I do try. When you’re a fashion icon, the pressure is always on. Now I must get on, I have work to do. (To Hinkle & Finkle) Was there something you wanted or are you purposely just getting in my way?
Hinkle No, just came to say hello.
Finkle And to see if there’s any food left over from lunch that we could finish off.
Darius As usual lunch was superb, we ate the lot!
Finkle (Disappointed) Oh. (To Clara) Could you make me a sandwich, I’m starving?
Clara No I can’t. My job is to cook for the royal family not for the likes of you.
Darius (To Hinkle & Finkle) Please don’t annoy Clara; we don’t want her going on strike and leaving Finkle to do all the cooking like she did last year. The food he served up was like something left over from the Last Supper!
Finkle Hey it wasn’t that bad, (To Hinkle) was it?
Hinkle I have to admit it wasn’t very nice. I threw mine in the pig’s trough and they wouldn’t touch it either. Even the cockroaches asked for a suggestion box after trying it!
Clara Now tell me what tonight’s audience is like, are they any good?
Hinkle Oh we’ve got a smashing audience tonight with a few exceptions!
Clara Let me know backstage who those few are, I can always walk up and down the aisle with my rolling pin, if needs be.
Finkle Oh I don’t think that’s going to be necessary. The boys and girls are going to shout as loud as they can, (To audience) aren’t you boys and girls?
Hinkle But they’ll have to promise to be extra quiet in the morning in case their parents have hangovers!
Finkle Do you know that if your parents don’t have children, then you won’t either?
Hinkle Oh I didn’t know that.
